The memorial was originally located at the Shire Hall Police Station in Nottingham (which is now part of the Galleries of Justice). It was removed to Epperstone Manor, Nottinghamshire Police Training School, when the police station closed. The memorial was transferred to Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters, Sherwood Lodge, Arnold, Nottingham, in 2009 after the Training School closed. The memorial was incorporated in a new structure and unveiled and rededicated on 11 November 2009. At the time of the Great War there were two separate police forces for the county of Nottinghamshire and the city of Nottingham. The City Police's Great War memorial is in North Church Street Police Station, Nottingham. The Shire Hall, although in the city, had the administrative status of being in the county and was the main offices of the County Council. The County Council's Great War memorial, which includes men of the Nottinghamshire Constabulary, was installed in the Shire Hall.
