Owthorpe - St Margaret's Church

The plaque is on the south wall of the nave, near the west door. The inscription on the Great War memorial reads, 'Remembering with honour Quartermaster Serjeant James Morley LSGC of Owthorpe who died on active service with 6th Ammunition Column Royal Field Artillery Mesopotamia 11th November 1916 aged 42 years. Private Percival Francis Webster of Owthorpe who died on active service with 1st Battalion the Sherwood Foresters Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. Oppy, nr. Arras, France, 10th October 1918 aged 20 years'. The memorial is modern and was unveiled on 18 August 2001 by Lt Col Gordon Gray (Rtd) OBE, chairman of the Colston Bassett, Cotgrave and Owthorpe Branch of the Royal British Legion, and dedicated by Rev. M Wainwright. A memorial to Private John Stewart who died in the Second World War was unveiled in the same ceremony.
