Colston Bassett - St John the Divine Church

WMA 27197 - plaque on the north wall of the nave. Dedication: 'To the glory of God and in honoured remembrance of the men of Colston Bassett who laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1919 (names). Death is swallowed up in victory.' There is a memorial cross (WMA 27916) on the north side of the churchyard. The dedication on two sides of the base of the cross reads: 'To the memory of the men of Colston Bassett who gave their lives in the Great war 1914-1919' and 'I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.' The cross was dedicated in 1920. There are photographs taken at the dedication service in a booklet, 'The village of Colston Bassett: a pictorial history', Colston Bassett Local History Group, 2008, ISBN 978 0 9559629 05.
