Nottingham Provincial & Union Bank - World War Two

This memorial commemorates Willis Widdowson, an employee of the National Provincial and Union Bank of England. Inscription: 'In memory of the following member of the staff of this branch who gave his life in the Second World War 1939-1945. Willis Widdowson’.

The memorial, formerly in the bank's premises on Thurland Street, Nottingham, is now in the banking hall of the Smiths Bank Branch of the National Westminster Bank plc, 16 South Parade, Nottingham NG1 2JX.

Above the WW2 memorial is a National Provincial and Union Bank of England's Great War memorial. The inscription reads: 'A tribute to the 2681 members of the staff of this Bank who served in the Great War 1914-1918 and in honoured memory of the 415 who gave their lives for their country'. There are no names on the memorial and copies were probably placed in branches across the country.
