There is a brass plaque below the memorial which reads: 'The funds for this memorial were raised by Charles F Woodward, Upton Hall, April 1929.' Charles Woodward was the husband of Violet Marjorie Woodward nee Warwick, the sister of Lieutenant John CG Warwick SNH (d. 27 May 1918, SS Leasowe Castle).
